Where the Odyssey Comes Ashore: Costa Navarino Opens the 2026 Season

From Homeric journeys to modern collaborations, 2026 in Messinia unfolds as a dialogue between myth and contemporary life.

The Ionian Sea folds around Messinia in the same salt-heavy embrace that once inspired Homer’s epics. In the hills above lies ancient Pylos, home of King Nestor, whose Mycenaean palace still overlooks the coast. Here, The Odyssey does not feel like distant literature, but part of the landscape itself.

Costa Navarino opened its 2026 season on February 27th, and this year, the destination is tapping into a growing interest in holidays connected to on-screen historical and mythological heroes by leaning into its Homeric legacy. The connection feels organic.

The staggered reopening began at The Westin Resort Costa Navarino, the family-oriented cornerstone of the destination, alongside its established kids’ clubs, the NBA Basketball School, and football and tennis camps, to enjoy along with the destination’s four golf courses.

Mandarin Oriental, Costa Navarino follows on March 31st. A retreat led by Taryn Toomey, founder of The Class, anchors the 2026 wellbeing calendar. Gastronomy remains a focal point, with Michelin-starred chefs Frédéric Anton and Arnaud Lallement set to appear, alongside a wine dinner with Château Margaux.

Navarino Agora reopens on April 8th, reviving the idea of the ancient marketplace in contemporary form. W Costa Navarino opens on April 2nd, bringing its design-led approach and music-driven evenings and exciting dining scene back into play. The Romanos, a Luxury Collection Resort, follows on April 8th, offering one of the destination’s more atmospheric settings, with architecture that references Nestor’s Palace. The Costa Navarino Villa Rental Collection also expands in 2026, with new three- to six-bedroom residences.

Across the season, programming returns to the Homeric thread. Visits to the Palace of Nestor and nearby archaeological sites are woven into broader experiences. Workshops in ceramics, weaving, and jewelry-making sit alongside outdoor exploration. Wellbeing draws on Hippocratic ideas of balance and environment through seasonal festivals and retreats. Rather than dramatizing the myth, the approach places visitors within the landscape that produced it.

Food carries much of the narrative weight. “Chefs on the Beach” returns to W Costa Navarino, while “Messinian Roots” dinners at The Romanos and The Westin revisit regional flavors through contemporary technique.

Sport remains a steady presence, with major events including the Legends Tour from June 11th to June 13th, the AEGEAN Messinia Pro Am from June 24th to June 28th, and the PPC IRONMAN 70.3 Costa Navarino from October 24th to October 26th.

Seasonal celebrations punctuate the calendar, from Greek Easter and May Day to the Messinian Summer Feast in mid-August, the Costa Navarino Soundtrack festival, the Messinia Jazz Festival, and stand-up comedy nights.

Seen as a whole, the 2026 season at Costa Navarino feels less like reinvention than recalibration. In Messinia, where stories of return have echoed since Homer, The Odyssey is not invoked for effect; it is already embedded in the terrain.
