For Mary Katrantzou, her work with Mandarin Oriental, Costa Navarino, is a perfect opportunity to expand her creative horizons and reinforce her lifestyle brand. Having already visited twice – “Each visit exceeded my expectations” – she was inspired to create a beautiful kaftan dress exclusively for the hotel.

Congratulations on becoming the first Social Fan Ambassador of Mandarin Oriental, Costa Navarino. What was your initial reaction upon receiving this invitation?
I was thrilled to partner with them and highlight this beautiful resort in one of the most scenic parts of the Peloponnese. Having visited several Mandarin Oriental hotels worldwide, I have always admired their exceptional service.
The number of Mary Katrantzou high-profile collaborations continues to grow. Where does Mandarin Oriental, Costa Navarino fit in the big picture of what you’re trying to achieve?

What is your favorite thing about traveling, and how important is it in your creative process?
Traveling is an essential part of my life and work. It provides endless opportunities for inspiration and discovery. My favorite aspect of traveling is immersing myself in different cultures, meeting new people, and exploring new places. These experiences enrich my perspective and fuel my creativity. I travel frequently for work, and each trip offers unique insights and inspiration that I incorporate into my designs. Creatively, I find beauty in all facets of life – design, film, nature, and art. Traveling allows me to expand my visual vocabulary and continuously evolve my creative process.
Can you recall any particular destinations that had a strong effect on you?
London has been the most transformative destination for me. It is where my career took off and where my creative journey began. The city’s vibrant fashion scene and cultural diversity have been a constant source of inspiration. It is a hub for creative exchange, and I cannot imagine our studio being located anywhere else. Every place I visit, however, leaves its mark on me in different ways. Whether it’s the architecture, the local traditions or the natural landscapes, each destination influences my work and personal growth. Traveling challenges my perspective and helps me push creative boundaries, making every trip a valuable and influential experience.
Are you a “hotel” person, and what are the most essential features you expect as a guest?
Absolutely, I consider myself a “hotel person.” The hospitality experience can significantly enhance a trip, making me want to return to a destination. The most essential features for me include friendly customer service, a sense of safety and reliability, and an authentic connection to the local environment. Although I rarely have the opportunity to indulge in them, I appreciate hotels that offer curated wellness treatments, providing much-needed relaxation. I also love a room with a view! Scenic views of the city or the surroundings add to the overall experience and create lasting memories.
You created a beautiful kaftan dress exclusively for Mandarin Oriental, Costa Navarino. Can you offer us some insights on the inspiration and the creative process?
The kaftan dress is inspired by the iconic elements of Mandarin Oriental, Costa Navarino. We wanted to create a design that embodied the brand’s essence while being versatile and timeless. The relaxed silhouette reflects the resort’s luxurious yet comfortable ambiance. We incorporated the Mandarin Oriental’s signature Fan symbol into the print, blending it with colors from our Spring-Summer 2024 Collection that complement the brand’s palette. The aim was to create a piece that guests could wear on various occasions, serving as a cherished souvenir that reminds them of their wonderful time at Mandarin Oriental, Costa Navarino.
The kaftan is available for purchase at The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Costa Navarino, with part of the revenue going to support ELPIDA – the Association of Friends of Children with Cancer.
