At Costa Navarino, every story is rooted in purpose. From preserving Messinia’s timeless landscapes to inspiring meaningful connections with nature, the destination continues to redefine sustainable living. The latest chapter? A pioneering collaboration with Nestlé Hellas that’s turning a daily ritual into a powerful act of circularity.
A Shared Vision for Zero Waste
Coffee is more than a beverage—it’s a ritual, a moment of connection, a shared experience. And now, it’s also a catalyst for positive change. In 2024, Costa Navarino and Nestlé Hellas joined forces to establish a zero-waste coffee program, recycling more than 4.3 tons of used grounds across resort dining venues and hotel rooms.
This strategic initiative, rooted in shared sustainability goals, first took shape at The Westin Resort Costa Navarino during a pilot phase in late 2023. With promising results, it expanded this year to The Romanos, a Luxury Collection Resort, and W Costa Navarino.
Transforming Grounds into Growth
The impact is tangible. Collected coffee residues from Buondi Craft and Roastelier blends are composted and repurposed as natural fertilizer, enriching the soil and nurturing the trees of Messinia. In fact, this initiative supported the fertilization of around 1,000 trees in just one year.

Recycling, Cup by Cup
Meanwhile, over 7,000 Nespresso capsules have already been recycled, with aluminum and organic materials carefully separated and treated. This thoughtful process ensures that even the smallest moments, like enjoying a morning espresso, leave a lasting, positive imprint on the land. The journey doesn’t stop there; Mandarin Oriental, Costa Navarino is set to join the program this season.
The Journey of Each Bean
At the heart of this effort is a well-orchestrated recycling journey. Coffee grounds are placed in custom containers, then transported to the facilities of MEGA ECO, an expert in organic waste transformation. Here, waste becomes resource—echoing Costa Navarino’s commitment to a circular economy and mindful hospitality.
Sustainability Through Collaboration
As TEMES Managing Director, Mr. Evgenios Dendrinos noted, “Our strategic partnership with Nestlé Hellas reaffirms that at TEMES, sustainability lies at the heart of our philosophy and is part of our everyday practice. Through innovative initiatives like coffee recycling, we demonstrate that when we unite forces around a shared vision, we can truly make a difference.”
Nestlé Hellas CEO Mr. Nikos Emmanouilidis emphasized, “Sustainable development is no longer a choice, it is a necessity. Through strategic collaborations like this one with Costa Navarino, we create solutions with real and measurable impact. Only through such partnerships can we build a more responsible and resilient future for all.”
In Messinia, nature is not a backdrop, it is the protagonist. And through partnerships like this one, Costa Navarino continues to ensure that every stay supports the stories of tomorrow.
