Costa Navarino Junior Golf Academy 2017
2017 was another successful year for the junior golf academy of Costa Navarino, building on from the success of 2016, with more wins in National events, participations in tournaments around Europe and successful promotion of players into the US college system.
Since its’ inception in 2011, the Costa Navarino junior golf academy now counts 50 junior golf members, all of which reside in the region of Messinia. Following in the vision of captain Vassilis Constantakopoulos, the role of the academy is to promote the game of golf in the local community, identify kids which exhibit an interest for the game and promote talented golfers to an elite level. With the awarding of “golf scholarships” every year (free golf lessons, team outfits, tournament participations) the academy has managed to grow into the most active successful golf academy in Greece.
In 2017, the Costa Navarino junior golf academy saw participation in all 5 National events in Greece:
- HGF Super Cup, Glyfada GC
- HGF Spring Cup, Porto Carras GC
- 2017 Hellenic National Match Play championship, Glyfada GC
- 2017 Hellenic National Stroke Play championship, Glyfada GC
- 3rd Hellenic International golf championship, Glyfada GC
In addition, members of the golf academy qualified for participation in 4 of the National junior and mens’ squads:
- 2017 Egyptian Open- Egypt
- 3rd Hellenic-Cyprus Friendship cup – Cyprus
- European team shield championship – Bulgaria
- 2017 Turkish Amateur championship-Turkey
Finally, with the support of Costa Navarino, our junior golf team participated in the following international competitions:
- Jamega Pro golf tour – Lingfield park event, Marriot Lingfied Park GC, UK
- English Boys U18 Open championship, West Sussex Golf club, UK
- Sotogrande Young talents trophy, Almenara golf clun, Spain
Costa Navarino was victorious for a 3rd straight year in the largest junior golf championship organized in Greece – the 5th Interclub junior golf championship – which took place at Costa Navarino in July. This event, organized by Costa Navarino with the support of Glyfada GC and the Hellenic golf Federation, is the opportunity for all golf academies in Greece to promote their players and participate in a tournament atmosphere. This years’ edition saw 55 junior golfers from 3 academies take part (Costa Navarino, Glyfada GC and Crete GC), with Costa Navarino taking 1st place in the main category.
