Education
Making knowledge available to all
The driving principles of Costa Navarino's social responsibility program for education are provision of infrastructure, continuous training, personal development and wider access to knowledge.
TEMES strives to achieve this goal by working with universities and educational organizations in Greece and abroad, while supporting an extensive scholarship program for young students from Messinia.
Our activities in the field of education include:
- Establishing the department of Marine Archaeology at the University of Peloponnese.
- Funding the construction of a new wing at the University of Peloponnese to be named after Captain Vassilis Constantakopoulos.
- Inaugurating in 2000 the Center of Hellenic Studies at the University of Beijing (China) and supporting its activities ever since.
- Establishing, in cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce, an institution providing educational programs and professional training in the field of tourism in Messinia.
Moreover, TEMES supports educational projects focusing on environmental and sustainability issues in cooperation with local authorities and other organizations. In 2009, TEMES is funding an educational program for young children on the unique natural habitat of the Gialova lagoon, to be managed by the Hellenic Ornithological Society (the Greek partner of BirdLife International). Ten local schools will participate in this program, which will include audio-visual material, specially designed environmental education activities and guided tours.
