Birdwatching is a popular activity with millions of enthusiasts all over the world.

Strategically located in terms of migratory routes, Messinia attracts many visitors who, armed with binoculars and field guides, comb the countryside for rare and unusual birds. Thousands of migrating birds from 271 species visit the Gialova lagoon each autumn for a final rest before making the long flight over the Mediterranean Sea and the Sahara Desert.

Birdwatching and nature tours around the Gialova lagoon are organized throughout the year in collaboration with the Hellenic Ornithological Society (the Greek partner of BirdLife International).

The bird calls you can hear on this website have all been recorded from species living or stopping over in the Gialova lagoon and the region of Messinia!
