The local cuisine of Messinia features numerous recipes based on extra virgin olive-oil. This precious gift of the earth has a distinctive flavor and smooth taste which make it the perfect accompaniment to vegetables, pasta, meat, fish and sweets.
In the 'Recipes' gallery to the left, you will find a selection of traditional recipes from the cookbook "Olive-Oil and the Messinian Traditional Cuisine" published by the Development Company of Messinia. The book itself contains many more authentic recipes from the region.
The gallery additionally features a number of signature dishes by the acclaimed New York-based chef Michael Psilakis which have been inspired by his roots in Messinia. Psilakis' esteemed culinary establishment is one of only two Greek restaurants in the world with a coveted Michelin star.
